San Diego Union-Tribune: Smart California Bail Reform is the Just Thing To Do

California has by far the highest median bail for people arrested on suspicion of committing crime. At about $50,000, it’s more than five times higher than the national median. But according to a 2015 Public Policy Institute of California report, states that have far lower bail have the same relatively low number of people skip out on their trials as the Golden State. In Washington D.C., authorities have ended bail altogether and also have the same relatively low numbers of people who are trial no-shows. Via San Diego Union Tribune
